Erasmus+ Equity in Gifted Education (EGE) in Kosovo
From 19th up until 21st of November, Birgit Broekhoven and Lineke van Tricht went to Pristina in Kosovo to work with teachers from Kosovo and from Ireland. The teachers came from various schools and worked at various levels, from primary up to secondary education.
After an introduction of the EGE programme, the teachers learned about the former Erasmus+ project Creating Equal Opportunities at School. Then, during workshops, the teachers made academic wordlists based on the introduction they got. The teachers brought textbooks for biology, history, social sciences, geography, religious studies, Albanian/English language, and collected academic words from these textbooks. They collaborated in country teams first, and then in international teams, learning from each other. A fun activity was working in international duos, teaching each other Albanian/Irish academic words.
The second workshop was used to come up with as many types of exercises as possible. The teachers were inspired by examples from the Dutch academic programme and then brainstormed more ideas. They also thought about themes to introduce the words with students. By the end of the day, everyone was tired and content with all the work done. The teachers took home first exercises to try out, and ideas for more exercises to develop in the next couple of months.
